Fusion 2023 Sizzle
LETTER FROM THE CO-DIRECTORS
Welcome to the 21st Anniversary of Fusion Film Festival! We are the Co-Directors of this year’s festival, Juliette, Kenzie, and Lucy, and we are beyond excited to celebrate this year’s stunning cast of creatives!Fusion seeks to honor and support women and gender-underrepresented creatives in film, television, and new media through our festival each year which offers students the chance to flex their skills, share their stories, and make everlasting connections with peers and industry professionals alike. Even today, twenty-one years since the inception of the festival, we continue to see gender disparity in the industry. Women and non-binary folks are pushed to the side in more ways than one, forced to pave their ways often entirely on their own. To think that such extreme inequality still exists despite so much positive change is disheartening, but it is exactly why Fusion was created over two decades ago. With so many years under the Fusion belt, we are particularly excited to honor our illustrious faculty mentor Susan Sandler who has been with this organization since the beginning, guiding us as we work to promote the Fusion values. She stands as the figurehead of this organization, and we wouldn’t be here today without her endless support, encouragement, and dedication to the mission of this team.We would also like to thank the hundreds of students and alumni who submitted their work this year! Fusion couldn’t exist without the hard work and creativity of the NYU community, and your films are what make this festival what it is. Congratulations to our participants, finalists, and winners for spotlighting the profound creativity of the next generation of filmmakers!Fusion wouldn’t be possible without our guest speakers, panelists, industry judges, NYU faculty, alumni, and sponsors. We are always appreciative of your contributions to our festival and for your time and dedication to our goal. Thank you for encouraging us to reach new heights as creators in the industry, both this week and beyond!Lastly, we want to thank the rest of the Fusion team, without whom none of this week’s amazing events would have been possible. We are so lucky to have such dedicated members working alongside us, sharing their ideas, and furthering our vision for this festival and this organization as a whole. Our team is what truly makes Fusion a family, and for that we’re forever grateful. We hope everyone here this week enjoys and engages with the amazing events our Programming team has lined up for you. Your being here reminds us that the Fusion mission continues to be important at NYU and beyond. We wish you all the best as we ring in the 21st annual Fusion Film Festival! With love,
Juliette, Kenzie, and Lucy

Note From Our Faculty Advisor
Professor Susan Sandler
It has been a profoundly rich experience working in Fusion’s garden this year!
From our fall events that highlighted Women on Set and celebrated the astonishing talents of our Fusion alumni, to the important conversation Fusion ignited around reproductive rights with our screening of The Janes and the conversation led by Pregnancy Justice’s leaders, Fusion’s team of talented, energetic, and thoughtful leaders has made all the hours of work truly fulfilling. The 2023 festival lineup glows with your intelligence, hard work, and vision. We know that you are the future of all good things in film, TV, and new media.Thank you, Fusionistas, for continuing to bring me joy and pride in all you do!Always with love,
Susan
